May 19, 2010 · I never really got deep into hardcore punk; the closest I got was probably Rise Against and old-college 1996 AFI, but both of them are arguably nowhere near hardcore. There are pop-punk exceptions that are good, like older Offspring material, NOFX, Rancid (more ska-punk, I know).
oh i think they’re hardcore, i just don’t get the "uk hardcore punk" tag. and i’m exaggerating a bit with the metal thing for effect. i don’t think the distinction we’re trying to make here is between hardcore and punk though, it’s between hardcore and hardcore punk.
Sep 13, 2014 · Hardcore is still punk music, just a more aggressive sound. It’s a matter of opinion which one is better. Some people prefer punk while some admire hardcore, that’s why there are traditional punk rockers and hardcore punks.
Nov 29, 2008 · Punk Rock is the lighter stuff from the lat 70s. Hardcore is more abrasive, its fairly close to metal in some aspects. Punk Rock from the late 70s sounds all fairly similar.

All the the best old-college metal is basically just punk/hardcore, only the people in the band can actually play their instruments.

Post-Hardcore is basically everything derived from earlier Hardcore such as, say, Sick Of It All, which itself is derived from earlier punk and punk rock. Common examples for "real" Post-Hardcore would be Refused, At The Drive-In or Glassjaw. Metalcore is a mixture of, well, Metal and Hardcore Punk.
