As always, the point of these articles is not to glorify war, which is horrible, but to appreciate the men and women who, in the midst of the horror, became superhuman.. It’s not just that the people on this list were brave, or even crazy.
Sure, Rambo takes on a huge chunk of the Vietnamese soldiers guarding a POW camp and slaughters them all. But that was a good 10 years after the war ended. It’s not like they were expecting some guy to come charging into the camp, mowing everybody down.
There are some people who fight war with such total lack of self regard that it seems like they were playing a video game. These are those people.
