Her winning essay earned her the grand prize—a $5,000 scholarship—in the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s (AFA) annual AFA Teens for Alzheimer’s Awareness college scholarship competition.

AFA’s teen division was founded in 2002, by a teenager, to help educate and support teens whose lives have been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease, as well as those who are interested in getting involved in the cause.

AFA Teens for Alzheimer’s Awareness educates and informs teens about Alzheimer’s disease. The program especially targets teen caregivers living in families affected by this disease. AFA Teens is a 2010 recipient of The Rosalinde Gilbert Innovations in Alzheimer’s Disease Caregiving Legacy Award for the Diverse & Multicultural Communities category.

In a further effort to provide an outlet for teenagers to think creatively about Alzheimer’s disease and to engage the er generation in this cause, AFA is pleased to offer the AFA Teens Video Competition for teens ages 13-19.
