Each year, the Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) sponsors two national literacy initiatives: Teen Read Week™, which encourages teens to read for fun and become regular library users, and Teen Tech Week™, which encourages teens to take advantage of the free technology available at libraries.

Each week we send a customized newsletter to our parent and teen subscribers. Parents can customize their settings to receive recommendations and parent tips based on their s’ ages. Teens receive a version just for them with the latest reviews and top picks …

Teen Read Week is a time to celebrate reading for fun while encouraging teens to take advantage of reading in all its forms —books, magazines, e-books, audiobooks and more! It is also a great opportunity to encourage teens to become regular library users.

Teens 4 Libraries: Help teens create and film public service announcements about their local library to air at local colleges or on the community public access channel during National Library Week. Organize a vote for the best announcement, and give a prize to the winner.

Make a display. Promote the nominated books in a prominent location. Include copies of any nominated books you have checked in, bookmarks with a list of the nominated titles and the website address where teens can vote, and an eye-catching sign.

Call for Volunteers for the Reenvisioning TRW/TTW Taskforce On September 24th the YALSA board approved a Board Document that calls for the formation of a taskforce to reenvision the Teen Tech Week and Teen Read Week initiatives and create a larger advocacy/awareness campaign to promote the importance of year-round teen services.

The continuing message of the Teen Read Week initiative is to encourage 12-18 s to "Read For The Fun Of It". Each year an annual theme allows YALSA to focus on timely topics and teen interests.
